Frequently
Asked Questions
Do I get a certificate
with the course?
Yes. Upon completion of the Professional Course, students receive a personal Letter of Recommendation from their instructor.
Do I need to take the Basic Course before I take the Professional Course?
No. With both courses we assume students have little or no experience
or training in bartending.
Do I have to be 21 to bartend?
No. In most states, the legal age to serve alcohol is 18, but there are
a few exceptions. In all New England states, the legal age to serve alcohol
is 18 (in Maine, the legal age is 17) as long as there is a manager or
supervisor over 21 present.
Do I have to be 21 to take the course?
No. There is no age requirement to take any of the courses we offer.
Do I need to pay by credit card, or can I pay by check or cash?
Paying by credit or debit card is the easiest and best way to secure a spot in one of our classes, but you can pay by check or cash as long as your payment is received before the class fills. To do so, either send a completed copy of our Sign Me Up! page with a check or money order payment to: University Bartending, 128 Free Street, Portland, Maine 04101, or call us at 1-800-U-CAN MIX. Remember, your place in class is not secured until your payment is received. Classes often do fill, so we strongly suggest credit or debit card payment.
When do I have to sign
up for a class?
Since we never really know when a class is going to fill-up, we recommend
you register as early as possible to secure a place in one of our classes.
How can I set up a
class at my school?
If we do not offer a class at or near your college or university we may
be able to set one up. If you are interested please call us at 1-800-U-CAN
MIX with your name, phone number, and the school you attend.
